The Blood Type Diet

The Blood Type Diet is a very popular diet used among a lot of celebrities, as well as thousands of people around the world who believe that you really are what you eat. The Blood Type Diet got popular when the book Eat Right 4 Your Type by Peter D’Adamo came out. The premise of the Blood Type Diet is that the lectins in foods react differently with each blood type.

BLOOD GROUP O

People that are in this group are believed to be the hunters; the earliest human blood group. People in this category should eat a meat-rich diet. Type O’s thrive on physical exercise and animal protein. Unlike the other blood groups, type O’s muscle tissue should be slightly on the acid side. The success of the type O dieters depends mainly on consuming lean, chemical-free meats, poultry and fish.

The initial weight loss of the type O group diet is by restricting consumption of grains, legumes, breads and beans. The leading factor in the type O group is the gluten found in wheat germ and whole wheat products, which interferes with insulin efficiency and slows down the metabolic rate. The second factor in weight gain is the consumption of legumes such as beans and lentils which contain lectins that are deposited in the muscle tissue, making them less “charged” for physical activity. The third factor in Type O weight gain is due to the low levels of thyroid hormone or unstable thyroid functions, which also cause metabolic problems. Avoid food that inhibits thyroid hormones such as cabbage, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, mustard green, etc.

Those in this group, should stick to Vitamin K enriched vegetables and fruits of alkaline nature such as berries and plums. Type O’s should also avoid dairy products.

BLOOD GROUP A

People in this group are called the cultivators and are believed to be a more recently evolved blood type, dating back to the agriculture times. People in this category should emphasize their diet on vegetables and vegetarian diets, eliminating red meats. Those with blood group A are predisposed to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. It is extremely important for type A’s to consume natural, organic pure foods. When on the Type A Diet, you’ll see you’ll start losing a lot of weight, especially if you are accustomed to eating red meats. Eliminating red meats from your diet will eliminate the toxic foods from your body.

The reason behind red meats being restricted is that when type As eat red meat, they experience sluggishness. Type A’s have low stomach-acid content, therefore they have a hard time digesting meat. Since meats are restricted, it is important for type A’s to consume nuts and seeds. Tofu, beans and vegetables are an important part of the Type A diet. Dairy foods are poorly digested by Type A’s, so try avoiding those as they slow down the metabolism.

And of course last but not least, vegetables are a super important part of the Type A Diet. Veggies for this type provide minerals, enzymes and antioxidants. Type A’s are also very sensitive to the lectins in potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, cabbage, tomatoes and peppers. Type A’s should eat more alkaline fruits and avoid mangoes, papayas, and oranges since they are not good for the digestive tract.

This category is also referred to as the nomad type. People with this blood type usually have an excellent immune system as well as a good digestive system.  People in this group should stick to lots of dairy products. Type B’s have strong immune systems, therefore are not as susceptible to disease as the other groups are. If you belong in this group and follow the dietary recommendations for your type, you should be able to live a very long, healthy life without any complications. The Type B Diet is balanced and wholesome, including a wide variety of foods.

For Type B’s, the biggest weight gainers are corn, buckwheat, lentils, peanuts and sesame seeds. These foods contain a lectin that affects the efficiency of the metabolic process resulting in fatigue, fluid retention and hypoglycemia. One of the most important things to remember is to remove chicken from your diet if you are a type B. Chicken contains a Blood Type B agglutinating lectin in its muscle tissue, which attacks the bloodstream and could potentially lead to strokes and immune disorders. Type B’s thrive on deep ocean fish, but should avoid all shellfish since they contain lectins that are harmful to Type B.

Type B is also the only group that can enjoy dairy products, but should stay away from most nuts and seeds since they contain lectins that interferes with Type B insulin production. Wheat is also not tolerated very well by most Type B’s since again, the lectin that is found, as well as failure to simulate fat burning.  It is also very important to eliminate tomatoes completely from the Type B Diet. The lectins found in the tomatoes cause the stomach lining to get irritated. Other fruits and vegetables are greatly recommended and should be highly consumed.

BLOOD GROUP AB

This group is labeled the enigma group and is the infant of all the blood type groups. People in this group should eat foods in between blood type A and blood type B. Type AB’s do best when their muscle tissues are slightly alkaline. This type cannot metabolize meat efficiently because of low stomach acid so it is crucial to watch the portion size and frequency. Chicken should also be avoided by Type AB since it contains lectins that irritates the blood and digestive tract. Tofu is an excellent protein supplement for this group and nuts, seeds, beans, and legumes should be consumed with caution.

Usually, Types AB can tolerate dairy foods, but just make sure that there isn’t an abundance of dairy food consumption as it can irritate the stomach. Type AB’s also do well on grains, wheat and rice, but not pasta. This group also has a weaker immune system so they will benefit from a diet high on vegetables and alkaline fruits. Type AB’s should wake up and drink a warm glass of water with the freshly squeezed juice of half a lemon to cleanse the system of mucus while sleeping.
