The South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet was started by cardiologist Arthur Agatston in Miami, Florida. Dr. Agatston is a graduate of New York University and his diet emphasizes healthy carbohydrates as well as healthy fats. He developed the South Beach Diet while working with his cardiac patients based upon his study of scientific dieting research.

The South Beach Diet

Dr. Agatston believes that bad carbs is what makes us gain weight, and until we get rid of those bad carbs, we can’t loose any weight! These ‘bad fats’ are saturated fats as well as trans fats, so it is very important that you check all labels and look out for the bad fats. The South Beach Diet consists of three phases, all of which encourage good fats and carbs and discourages bad fats.

In Phase I, dieters eliminate high-glycemic carbs such as dairy, bread, sugar, potatoes, candy, fruit, cereals and grain. These products eliminate insulin levels which in turn burns excess body fat, getting you, the dieter, to lose anywhere from between 8-13 pounds! This is pretty amazing considering that the South Beach Diet is unlike any other since it allows you to eat regular food. Unlike many other diets, which get you to eat a grapefruit for breakfast, lunch, and diner, the South Beach Diet focuses on the human’s need for healthy consumption. So for the first two weeks of the diet, dieters are asked to consume normal-sized helpings of fish, meat, vegetables, eggs, cheese, and nuts. These foods are combined throughout the day to make a total of three different meals and the dieter eats until he/she is full! Amazing, right? A diet where you can actually eat proteins and cheeses without feeling bad or guilty. On top of that, it is recommended that you eat until you feel full! The downside? You are asked to refrain from consuming any alcohol at the time.

After two weeks, phase II begins and other foods are reintroduced into the diet. Foods such as fruit and dairy products accompanied by whole wheat’s all make a grand comeback into your system. Of course at this stage, it is asked that portions get smaller, but you can now incorporate sweet potatoes as well as red wine. So get to eating and drinking and you’ll soon see this mega diet take a toll on you!

In the third phase of the South Beach Diet, you are asked to include three servings of whole grain and three servings of fruit into your diet. This phase is more of a maintenance phase, where you get accustomed to the foods and your body adjusts to the South Beach Diet.

The South Beach Diet is absolutely amazing for anyone that wants to lose any amount of weight. So whether you’re looking to loose 10 pounds or 200 pounds, the South Beach Diet is the thing for you. Not only is this an easy diet, but it doesn’t eliminate your favorite foods, and is pretty leniant. The only thing the South Beach Diet demands of you is that you eliminate the bad cards and the bad fats, which really isn’t a lot to ask for. Even if you just do that, you’ll see the pounds shed off almost instantly. So give the South Beach Diet a try and I guarantee you that you won’t ever regret it!
